The Wolverines played their semi-final game today against the Grand River Mustangs. The girls knew that this was an important game and came out playing hard. Alisha Layton was in net for the Wolverines. After the last match with the Mustangs the team realized it would need to change some things up in order to pull off a win against the undefeated Grand River team. Shots were exchanged, the defence hustled and the forwards put pressure on their defence and the score remained 0-0 for most of the first period. Tonight the Wolverines took on the Kitchener Lady Rangers. This game was crucial for the girls as they needed a tie or a win tonight to make it into the final four playoff round. The Mustangs were undefeated in this half of league play. Michaela Baker was in net. We were missing a few players and the girls got off to a slow start as they adjusted to a few line changes. The team played some defensive hockey and the game stayed tied late into the first period. Baker was fantastic in net fielding many strong shots. Unfortunately the Mustangs scored a pair of goals in the first to lead 2-0. During the second period the Wolverines kept playing defensive hockey but were running out of steam toward the end of the second and the Mustangs scored a pair of goals to lead 4-0.
