Game 9 - On the road to Fergus
On Saturday the Wolverines travelled to Fergus to take on the first place Grand River Mustangs. The girls knew it was an important game as the end of the second half was drawing near. The Mustangs were undefeated in this half of league play. Michaela Baker was in net. We were missing a few players and the girls got off to a slow start as they adjusted to a few line changes. The team played some defensive hockey and the game stayed tied late into the first period. Baker was fantastic in net fielding many strong shots. Unfortunately the Mustangs scored a pair of goals in the first to lead 2-0. During the second period the Wolverines kept playing defensive hockey but were running out of steam toward the end of the second and the Mustangs scored a pair of goals to lead 4-0.
Our team was getting a bit frustrated by this point but kept playing. The Mustangs went on to score another 2 goals to lead 6-0. However the Wolverines kept trying and managed to score one late in the third to get on the scoreboard. Great job girls - we will get another chance the next time we play them. Our last league game is at home on Wednesday against the Kitchener Lady Rangers.
