Novice B Wolverines Season Comes to an End
Written by Lori Spoltore
Special congratulations to the Novice B Wilmot Wolverines as they ended their season with a terrific effort at the Provincial OWHA Championship weekend in Toronto.  The team did not advance to the play-off round due to a tie breaking format after round robin but celebrated great success in participating.  The girls played outstanding hockey and worked hard as a team all weekend.  The fans were extremely proud and thrilled with their efforts.  The Novice team is also elated for their mentor Atom team who they helped to cheer on to the gold medal and title of Provincial Champions. It was a great weekend to be a Wolverine!

In pool play, the Novice Wolverines skated to a 2-2 tie against Windsor who was an extremely aggressive team with excellent skaters.  Goals for Wilmot were scored by Jenna Kumpf and Sierra Egli with an assist to Carson Weiler.  Egli's goal was superb as she planted herself in front of the crease and knocked one into the corner to tie the game.  The fans went wild!    Kara Mark was electric in net for the Wolverines and faced many difficult shots.  Lauren Bast and Paige Carter worked hard to back check and dug in the corners.  Lindsay Slessor, Mikayla O'Connell and Paige Jurica were very effective getting the puck out of the Wolverine end.  In game two, the Wolverines won handedly 4-0 over the Waterloo Ravens though much of the scoring came late in the game.  Goals were scored by Sierra Egli (2), Madison McCormick, and Emily Hussey.  Egli also had an assist on McCormick's goal.  The defensive efforts of Alisha Latyn, Kayla Schenk, Jadyn Calder and McCormick were superb as they were tough at the blue line and used the boards well.  Weiler was excellent carrying the puck and tried hard to pass to her teammates.  In game three, Wilmot faced an undefeated team from Barrie that was experienced and fast.  Barrie took the game 4-0, and advanced to semis.  Though the Wolverines lost, they played with determination and heart and never gave up.  Sincere appreciation to all of the coaching staff of the Wolverines for an outstanding year, and to Stitch Graphix for their generous sponsorship of the team including Provincial shirts for the girls as a special surprise on the weekend.  Great season Novice B!
