Wolverines Work Hard to the End
Congratulations to the Wilmot Wolverine Novice B team who fought with determination and pride last night in a nail biter against the Grand River Mustangs, but came up short 1-0. The three game series goes to the much improved Mustangs who become the Western Division Champions and will now proceed to Lower Lakes League Championship Weekend to face the winner of the other three divisions. The Wolverines will now focus on their Provincial berth in April with full intentions of continuing to improve and work hard.

The Wolverines gave it their all and played one of the best games of the season, digging in the corners and passing to teammates. Kara Mark was solid in net and made some excellent saves. Outstanding play by the Wolverine defense as Kayla Schenk, Maddie McCormick, Jayden Calder and Alisha Latyn cycled the puck, and skated hard to backcheck. Latyn broke up many plays in the centre zone and McCormick tried to rush the puck several times but always got back to position, playing one of her best games ever. Lauren Bast was high flying and played an aggressive game along with teammates Paige Carter and Jenna Kumpf. The Mustang goalie made some brilliant saves and knew to cover the puck when the Wolverines were near. Hustle and determination from Lindsay Slessor, Carson Weiler and Paige Jurica as they tried their best to pass the puck and use space. Mikayla O'Connell and Emily Hussey were effective in the play as well and kept centering the puck in front of the net. Sierra Egli continues to be a natural threat in front of the net as her game sense is much improved and she knows where to be at the right time.

The Wolverines are an excellent example of a team that has bonded, plays fair and supports each other through wins and losses. The coaching staff are responsible for setting a superlative example for these girls and are to be commended for their commitment to developing outstanding hockey players.

The Wolverines will now rest up for the Provincial tournament April 13-15th. Best of luck to the girls as they continue their amazing season. Go Wolverines!
