North Halton Twisters Tournament
The Wilmot Wolverines Bantam LL team played in the North Halton Twisters Tournament the weekend of Nov. 18-20.  The girls worked well together as a team both on and off the ice. They played three games over the weekend. Friday night they faced a tough Burlington Barricudas team. The game was intense with a lot of back and forth play. It was tied heading into the third period despite an early Wolverine shot that seemed to pop in and out of the net so quickly that the referees missed it. The Wolverines were determined to score and kept hustling.

Finally during a scuffle in front of the net Rachel Gruhl put one in with an assist by Kirsten Bolding. Burlington rallied back and tied it up. Michaela Baker was outstanding in net and made many spectacular saves to keep the game at a tie of 1-1.
On Saturday the team played against the North Halton Red Rebels. North Halton opened up the scoring midway through the first but the Wolverines were not about to give up. They rallied to score two goals in the first period. The first by Abigail Zalac, unassisted, and the second one by Sarah Frank with an assist by Kirsten Bolding. The Wolverines were leading by one and hungry for a win. Jenna Caslick scored a goal early in the second to put the Wolverines up by two. The Red Rebels weren’t prepared to give up and scored a goal in the second to narrow the Wolverine’s lead. The girls dug deep in the third to continue their momentum. The fourth goal for the Wolverines was scored by Sarah Frank and assisted by Jenna Caslick and Ravynn Livy to bring the score to 4-2. Alisha Layton put in a solid performance between the pipes and the girls held the score to 4-2 to pull off the win.

They played again on Saturday drawing a 9:30 ice time. The pressure was on to pull off a win to advance to the semi-finals. The Wolverines met a quick and tough Clarington team. Although the girls were skating hard and moving the puck well they couldn’t seem to get any bounces. Clarington opened up the scoring early in the first period. The Wolverines responded by picking up their game and the first period ended 1-0. The Clarington team scored again late in the second to bring the score to 2-0. Michaela Baker was in net and was facing some hard shots. The Wolverine’s forwards hustled to push the puck and had several great shots but we couldn’t get the bounces. Clarington scored twice in the third to bring the score to 4-0. Despite this the girls played very well and should be proud of their overall success in this tournament. Way to go girls! You made your parents and fans proud!
