Wolverines Tournament Finalists in Mitchell
The Atom C Wolverines were determined but came up short in the championship game in the Mitchell Meteors Ladies Tournament on the weekend.  The final score against a tough team from Ingersoll was 4-1.  Congratulations to the Wolverines for showing excellent determination, hustle and team play.

In round robin action the Wolverines defeated Mount Forest 1-0 with a sweet goal from Lindsay Slessor, assisted by Sierra Egli and Carson Weiler.  Alisha Latyn made clutch saves in the game and Julia James was aggressive on defence.  Tia DeRuiter and Brianna Arends never stopped and worked hard every shift.  In game two, the girls lost to Ingersoll 4-0 though many fans would say the Wolverines dominated the play but just couldn't squeak one in.  Ingersoll had incredibly fast skaters and Ella O'Connor proved to be too much as she had her first hat trick of the year.  In the third game of round robin play, it was do or die and the Wolverines were able to secure a birth to the championship game after a 4-2 win over Petrolia.  Wilmot had one of the fastest goals EVER as Carson Weiler knocked one in off the first face-off 8 seconds into the game.  Leah Wagler then potted a second goal with an assist from Weiler.  Petrolia was not about to back down and came back to score late in the first.  The Wolverine defense was solid with great effort from Kate Baumgart, Julia James, Avery Vance and Abby Daer.  Weiler gave the Wolverines a jump late in the second period with another goal, assisted by Madison Stainer-Mace.  Petrolia came back again early in the third which kept the fans on the edge of their seats.  Stainer-Mace tipped one in to end the scoring 4-2, after assists from Slessor and Egli.  The Wolverines advanced and were thrilled.  In championship action, the Wolverines faced the high-flying Ingersoll Ice again.  Wilmot dominated the game and came out flying in the first period showing aggressive play.  Excellent hustle from Weiler, Daer and Vance.  All four of the Ice goals were scored by the same player, Amber Foster who was on fire with the puck and had a wicked shot.  Leah Wagler scored the lone Wolverine goal, and even though the team was down, they never gave up.  For a first tournament experience, the Atom Cs proved they are willing to learn and ready to play.  Great job girls!  Go Wolverines!
