Great Finish to the Season!
Written by Brian Schnarr

After a great season our Mighty Wolverines finished with a record of 27 – 8 -9. This was good enough to put us in third place of the Central West Division in Lower Lakes. We as parents have a lot to be proud of our girls worked hard on and off the ice and it showed throughout our season, each and every one of these girls should be proud of what they accomplished as a team.

This team and I mean TEAM entered and won 2 out of the three tournaments they played in, this experience and as one of our parents says moments is something all these girls will remember and cherish for a very long time.

In past articles I have avoided mentioning girls by name as it is a team effort and all their contributions matter so much but as we head into playoffs I would like to introduce you to all of them so you can get a glimpse of Wilmot Girls Hockey’s future.

Let’s start with our Wall and the most intimidating goalie in our League, Kaitlyn The Wall Robertson, she may not be very busy some nights but when we need here she is always up to the challenge.

Our defence is solid no matter what combination coach Matt decides to put on the ice, the powerful skating and rushes made by Rayne Bowden, along with the timely and deadly accurate shooting by Bella Davidson keep our opponents guessing.  Our two youngest defenseman Lexi James and Emma Schweitzer show no fear and their strong play has improved game by game. Our defense is rounded out by Leah Yantzi whose strong consistent play and timely scoring (Shoot Out Winner) against Waterloo makes our Wolverines hard to play against.

Our forwards are an enthusiastic and dominant force, we have a great mix of younger and experienced talent.  Coach Matt and his staff have changed the combinations several time and like the great Chef Boyardee he has found the right combinations.  Our line that consist of Maddy (Mad Dog) Ionson , Kassia Deep and Paige Mosburger work so hard other teams cannot contain them. They may be small in stature but their determination is larger than life.

Our next group consist of Paige Jurica whose veteran presence and skill makes her dangerous at both ends of the ice, along with the hard work and ever improving skills of Paulie Warkentin and Lyndsay Dajka. These girls are always smiling and this line buzzes around the net most nights.

The last set of forwards have been put together and in my opinion it has taught them all how to work together, the line of Mikayla (Mouse )O’Connell, Sarah Schnarr and Sydney Petzke often dominate play when on the ice, with fluid skating and hard accurate shooting ,these girls work hard to pressure opposing teams at both ends of the ice.

I want to thank the coaches and staff, for without you being the driving force we wouldn’t have had the great year we did, your encouragement and structure has taught all of our kids how to be a team. And as a parent we have the best base of parents I think any team can ask for, so let’s go do our thing and bring it home to Wilmot.  Go WOLVERINES
