We battled hard for the Silver medal!
Submitted By KLarochelle on Sunday, December 30, 2012
A huge congratulations to the Wolverines Bantam L/L who fought hard in the Championship game today vs the undefeated Waterloo Ravens #1 team.  After three hard fought periods, the two evenly matched teams ended regulation time with no score.

The teams exchanged few chances on net as the game evolved into a defensive clinic.  The Ravens who had only one goal scored against all tournament, proved once again to be solid in their own zone.  We have historically played a more run and gun offensive style, but as of late have evolved our game focusing on defensive responsibility and were able to match the Ravens at their own game.

As the horn sounded, we had done what no other team has done this year in shutting out the Waterloo Ravens. This game would be decided by four on four sudden death overtime.

Though we had taken the lion share of the penalties this game, we missed our opportunity to capitalize on a start of overtime power play.  The Ravens as expected put out their number one penalty kill and kept us to only a few chances on net. Our exhausted power play unit would be caught in the middle of a line change as the penalized Raven stepped out onto the ice just in time to take a pass at centre ice.  She powered her way into our depleted zone and was able to convert on the opportunity.

We acknowledged the Ravens win on this occasion knowing our Silver Medal performance had bettered a dozen other teams in the tournament.  We could leave the ice with our heads held high knowing that we had just skated with, stayed with, and we shut down the best team in the league, elevating our status to among the elite.

Way to go Bantam L/L Wolverines!  You made your families and coaches proud with your performance today!
