Wolverines Spring Update
As the weather gets warmer, Wilmot Girls Hockey Association has been planning for the season end activities and getting ready for a new season.

1) Local League Teams:

·         Our teams are competing in their play-off round and planning has begun for the Kitchener Girls Local League (KGLL) Championship Day, which will be held April 7th KGLL Championship Day (Kitchener Minor Hockey).

 

2) Rep Teams:

·         Our Rep teams in WOGL (Western Ontario Girls Hockey League have started their play-off rounds. Important details for play-off and finals have been shared with coaches and teams.

·         Our Rep teams in OWHA Southern Loop are now competing in their play-offs, and further details have been shared with coaches.

·         Provincials: Teams have just wrapped up an exciting round of games for Provincial Playdowns. Congratulations to our five teams who have qualified for Provincials scheduled for April 11th-14th in the Toronto area. Provincial playdown information can be found here under the playdown tab.

 

3) ESSO Girls Try Hockey Day:

·         WGHA will host this year’s event on March 23rd and more info can be found Esso Try Hockey Day  Bring a friend who is new to hockey for this exciting and free event for all ages. This is always a great day and a neat opportunity for new players and their families.

 

4) Spring 50/50 Draw:

5) Year-End Coaches’ Meeting and Appreciation Event:

·         We are currently working on plans for this year’s event to be held at the beginning of April. Details will be shared with our teams shortly.

 

6) 2024-2025 Coaches:

·         The Coach Selection Committee was busy in February going through application packages, interviewing, and contacting references. Tier 1 coaches for next season have now been announced and posted on our website.

·         Announcements for Tier 2 coaches will be announced after Tier 1 tryouts. We are still looking for applicants for our U18 Tier 2 team.

·         Applications will open for Local League coaches on May 1st, and will close on May 31st. The committee will work through the selection process in June for these teams.

 

7) 2024-2025 Teams:

·         Based on our current projections for next year we have tentatively booked in rep teams for:

U9 Tier 1

U11 Tier 1

U13 Tier 1 and Tier 2

U15 Tier 1 and Tier 2

U18 Tier 1 and Tier 2

·         Things can and do change and the association will adjust where needed to provide the best service to our members and their families. Once Spring registration happens, we will have a better idea of the number of teams for Local League.

 

8) Tryouts:

·         U11-U18 tryouts will take place April 23rd to May 12th We are currently working with other associations on their timelines, comparing that to our available ice.

·         U9 tryouts will be scheduled for September, as per Hockey Canada guidelines.

·         Senior tryouts also happen in the fall to align with other associations.

 

9) 2024-25 Registration:

·         Our Spring registration for all players is scheduled to start at the beginning of May. We do expect some age groups to fill up, so make sure you book this date in your calendar for a guaranteed spot and a discounted price.

 

10) WGHA Executive and AGM:

·         Our executive is made up of an amazing group of volunteers. Some have hockey backgrounds and some do not, but we share a passion for the sport and building a program for our community. We value new ideas, volunteers and help and hope you will consider getting involved. Our AGM is scheduled for Wednesday May 15th.
