Riding the high off of a 5-2 win on the road over the
Grand River Mustangs, the Wilmot Wolverines Novice LL#2 team put another W in
the column this past Wednesday with a 6-3 victory on home ice over the Kitchener
Lady Rangers.
It was the Rangers who were first to get on the board, taking a 1-0 lead late in the second. Less than a minute later, however, Wolverines’ Lila Funston answered back to tie it up. While the Rangers were regrouping, Funston lit the lamp again, putting the Wolverines ahead 2-1.
Early into the third Lila Funston put yet another biscuit in the basket, earning herself a hat trick. The Wolverines’ offensive lines kept the momentum going, keeping the puck in the attack zone, while their blue liners did an incredible job keeping the Rangers’ scoring opportunities to a minimum.
Avery Ionson-Lehman and Celia Funston were also able to put the puck between the pipes, catapulting the Wolverines ahead by four. Although the Rangers scored two more, Samantha Wright’s goal late in the third cemented the Wolverines’ 6-3 victory.
Bronwyn Brietenstein played a solid game in net. Supported by the efforts of her teammates Brietenstein stoned many a Ranger from point blank range!
