Atom LL’s Earn Silver Medal at Kyla Kowalik Tournament
At the 9th annual Kyla Kowalik Tournament, hosted by the Wolverines, the Atom LL’s earned their second silver medal of the season, in a close Championship game against the Kitchener Lady Rangers Blue.

The Wolverines started the tournament with a match-up against the Kitchener Lady Rangers Red. After 2 scoreless periods, the Rangers picked up the first goal of the game with 7 minutes left in the third period. However, with only 39 seconds left in the game and the Wolverines goalie pulled allowing an extra skater on the ice, Sykora W. evened the score. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Wolverines’ player of the game was awarded to goaltender Kasey L., who played excellent throughout the game.

Later the same day, the Wolverines faced the Grand River Mustangs #2. The Wolverines showed a little more offensive power in this game, with Sykora W. picking up 2 goals within 30 second of each other. Faith A. assisted on the first goal. Kristen S. picked up her first of the year to add to the Wolverines lead, assisted by Selyna B. The Mustangs were able to collect 2 goals to make it close. However, the Wolverines sealed the win with an empty net goal by Ada B., assisted by Olivia B., to give them the 4-2 victory. This win earned the Wolverines a spot in the semi-final game. Wolverines’ player of the game was Sykora W. for her great offensive contribution.

The semi final game saw the Wolverines up against the Grand River Mustangs #1.  The Mustangs scored first, early into the second frame. Later that period, the Wolverines’ Ada B. evened the score, assisted by Maeve C. and Emmie F. Grand River took the lead again in the third period, however, the Wolverines answered again with the tying goal by Maeve C, from Ada B. After regulation play, the game was still tied 2-2, forcing the game into 4 on 4 sudden death overtime. Just 12 seconds into the OT period, the Wolverines captured the victory with a goal by Ada B, assisted by Kya G. earning the team a spot in the Championship game. Player of the game was Emmie F. for her offensive support.

In the Championship game, the Wolverines faced the Kitchener Lady Rangers Blue. These two teams have had 3 close match-ups already this season, with each team collecting a win, and a tie. This game was no exception, with both teams fighting a hard battle. The Rangers scored first, late in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. However, early into the second period, Sykora W. put the Wolverines on the board, with a great pass from Faith A.  Despite some great chances, neither team could score in the third, forcing the game into sudden death overtime. Late in the third, the Rangers were given a penalty so the overtime started with 4 on 3. An overtime penalty for the Wolverines evened the lines at 3 on 3. With the Rangers penalty over, and the Wolverines short handed, the Ranger put on the pressure and were able to score, giving them the victory.  Wolverines’ player of the game was Faith A. for her hard work and excellent passes to her teammates.

Congratulations to the Wolverines for their silver medal finish as well as to the Wolverine players who represented the team at the skills competition – Kya G. (shooting), Faith A. (puck handling), Sykora W. (skating) and Kasey L. (goaltending).
