Wilmot Bantam BB Win Gold at Kitchener Fall Fest
The Wilmot Wolverines Bantam BB girls hockey team went undefeated in five games and brought home the gold medal from the Kitchener Fall Fest tournament on November 24 - 26, 2017.

On Day One of round robin play, the offense came alive and filled the net for wins over the West Northumberland Wild 4-1, and the Scarborough Sharks 5-1. In Day Two of competition, the team beat the Haldimand River Cats 1-0 to earn a bye to Sunday’s semi-final.

In a re-match against the West Northumberland Wild, the team’s true merit was tested after teammate Sarah Schnarr broke her wrist during a hard collision at centre ice, and were scored against shortly thereafter. Rather than give up, the girls rallied from behind in the third period to win 2-1.

The gold medal final was a thrilling back-and-forth battle against league rivals, the Woolwich Wildcats. Scoreless at the end of regulation, the game went to sudden death. After four minutes of overtime action, Danielle Bast made a pass from the point to Sydney Knorr. After battling with the defense in the corner, she shot the puck to Jenna Kumpf out front of the net, who made no mistake and banged home the five hole winner. A happy but emotional win for the team, who dedicated the game to Sarah by wearing her #15 on their sticks. A true character-building experience for the girls, who came together through adversity with hard work and determination to win more than just a gold medal. The team would like to thank Chloe Hehn for stepping in to play for Sarah on very short notice, and to trainer Laurie Ferrede and coach Rich Kumpf for their calm and quick-thinking on the bench treating Sarah’s injury.
