Wilmot Wolverines U11: Pink the Rink Tournament Finalists
This past weekend, our Wilmot Wolverines U11 girls stepped onto the ice at the Pink the Rink Tournament with a fierce mindset—to win. We came out flying, and from the first game, it was clear that we were a team on a mission. Across three round-robin games, we racked up 35 goals while allowing just 3 against us. Our determination was evident in every game, with wins of 7-2 over the Flamborough Falcons, 21-1 against Woolwich Wild, and a dominant 7-0 victory over the Mississauga Hurricanes. Every line was firing on all cylinders, contributing to our success and securing our spot as the first-place team overall.
As we headed into the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon, the team had a slower start than we hoped, but they regrouped and powered through, defeating the North Bay Junior Lakers 5-0. Their resilience shone in the semifinals early Sunday morning, where we jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period. The Orangeville Tigers put up a strong fight, but our defense held strong, and we earned our place in the finals.
Arriving at the Ford Performance Center, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs, their nerves were high. For many of the girls, this would be their first championship game. Facing the Carleton Place Cyclones, who had something to prove, the battle was intense from the first drop of the puck. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t find our rhythm. The toll of six games in a long weekend showed, and Carleton scored one goal each period, leaving us with a tough 3-0 loss.
Though we didn’t take home the championship, I couldn’t be prouder of this team. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room after the game, which speaks volumes about the heart, passion, and competitiveness these girls have. This tournament has instilled in them a belief that they can take on any team, in any tournament, and win. Finishing as finalists in our first tournament is a massive accomplishment, and it has only fueled the fire for what's to come.
Ladies, be proud! This is just the first step in a much bigger journey, and with the winning mindset you’ve developed, I know we’re on our way to something great. Onward to provincials!
