Wolverines U18B Team Wins GOLD at Oakville Tournament!
Submitted By Dickie Dunn on Tue 09 27, 22
The Wilmot Wolverines U18B team travelled to Oakville to take part in the Oakville Harvest Tournament.

The tournament started off Friday with a matchup against the Lindsay Lynx. The Wolverines found themselves down 1-0, but a third period goal by Macy Mclachlan (Assisted by Kassia Deep) took it to 3 on 3 overtime, but Wilmot would eventually take the OT loss, 2-1 in game 1.

In Friday's second game Wilmot faced the Oakville Hornets. In this close matchup Sarah Bell scored the lone goal (assisted by Raelyn Cook). Goaltender Emma Goodwin made clutch saves down the stretch to earn the shutout and the 1-0 win for the Wolverines

With Tori Wagler, Maeve Campbell, and Rachel Ellig all out of the line-up for various reasons, the Wolverines had to play with only 11 skaters for the two games on Saturday. Game one on Saturday saw the Wolverines face-off against the Mississauga Hurricanes. Sarah Bell started the scoring in this game (assisted by Kassia Deep and Natasha Honderich). Goals by Raelyn Cook (assisted by Paige Yoworski and Natasha Honderich) and  Macy Mclachlan (assisted by Haylie Brett) would bring the final to 3-0 with goaltender Lola Bradshaw recording the shutout.

The Wolverines would again have an extremely short bench when the team faced Collingwood in the semifinals. Sarah Bell opened the scoring in this one (assisted by Haylie Brett and Lily Jorgenson) and a goal by Paige Yoworski (assisted by Macy Mclachlan and Lily Jorgenson) would see the Wolverines take a 2-0 lead. The strong defensive group of Haylie Brett, Lauryn Porchak, Natasha Honderich, and Lily Jorgenson along with a strong back check from forwards like Claire Weinacht and Faith Appleton would help goaltender Lola Bradshaw secure her second straight shutout.

Maeve Campbell returned to the lineup on Sunday, giving the Wolverines a much needed additional skater for their championship game against Woodstock. This was a close contest with the Wolverines showcasing an inspired performance as they played through the effects of playing all weekend with a limited bench. Paige Yoworski would score the only goal in this game (assisted by Natasha Honderich and Macy Mclachlan). Lola Bradshaw would record another shutout and the goaltending duo of Bradshaw and Goodwin would finish the event with four straight shutouts and they would only allow one regulation goal in the tournament. The 1-0 final in the championship game would earn the Wilmot Wolverines the gold medal in the Oakville Harvest Tournament. The Wolverines will see their next tournament action on the weekend of October 14th when they take part in the Etobicoke Pink the Rink tournament.
