The B-W Feed & Seed/Stitch Graphix Atom B Wolverines were busy this week playing three games in their regular season play. Their first game of the week would see the Wolverines host the Woodstock Wildcats, looking to redeem themselves after falling to the Wildcats in pre-season play.
Despite the Wolverines keeping the puck deep in the Wildcats
end and denying their opponents many opportunities for scoring , they were
unable to seize any opportunities to score. The Wildcats would score the lone goal of the game in the second
frame. Goaltender Gillian Knarr shut down any further scoring chances from the Wildcats through the remainder of the game. The Wolverines struggled to find the speed they have shown in
previous games, and walked away with a 1-0 defeat.
Friday, the Wolverines hit the road for their match up
against the St. Mary’s Rock. The Rock came out hard and caught the
Wolverines by surprise, taking a 2-0 lead early in the first period.
Wilmot would find a way to regroup and battle hard to get themselves back in
the game. Meghan Young put the Wolverines on the board late in the first
period with a pass from Emily Hussey. It would be Young again to bury the
puck in the third period to tie up the match, with the help of Hussey and Kara
Cook. While the Wolverines had clearly found their momentum, the clock
would run out, leaving the game at a 2-2 tie.
On Sunday afternoon the Wolverines hosted the London
Devilettes to close out their busy week of hockey. From the time the
Wolverines took the ice, they demonstrated a return of their determination and
spirit. Even though the Devilettes were the first to score, the
Wolverines would soon even up the score with Young netting a beautiful
backhander from a pass from Jenna Kumpf. The defensive lineup of Madison
McCormick, Kara Cook, Madison Oliver, Kayla Schenk and Marley O’Connell helped
keep the Devilettes at bay and unable to penetrate the Wolverines end. It
would be in the final minutes of the game that Young would score and allow the
Wolverines to take the lead on a setup from Taryn McIntyre. Desperate to
even up the match, the Devilettes pulled their goalie, but the fast skating of
McCormick gave her the opportunity to bury the puck on an empty netter to seal
the fate of the Devilettes. The Wolverines would claim their first
victory of the regular season play with a final score of 3-1. Way to go Wolverines!
