Bantam B "Bridesmaids" bring home Silver from Cambridge Tourney
Another fun weekend of hockey, team work, competition and comradery was had this past Friday to Sunday at the Cambridge Roadrunners' Challenge Cup.  The Bantam B Wolverines entered the weekend with high hopes and plenty of excitement.

With 3 teams in each pool their initial goal was to advance to the semis after pool play.  They opened with a win in a hard-fought battle against the Napanee Crunch 2-1.  The afternoon game was evenly matched, but the girls were unable to find the back of the net and fell 1-0 to the Wallaceburg Lakers.  After navigating the crazy temperatures and snowy roads (luckily it's not too far to Cambridge!!) they finished the round-robin portion with a 3-1 "dub" over the Collingwood Lightning.

Off to the semis versus Kitchener Lady Rangers at the Mall (many happy moms this weekend!).

The Kitchener game was a good back and forth and ended in regulation time with a 1-1 tie.  The girls went through a 3on3 three-minute overtime period scoreless then a 2on2 two-minute O.T. also scoreless.  Shootout!
Both teams shot 3 times and Wilmot buried the only goal to win the game.  Off to the finals!

The finals saw Wilmot revisit the Napanee Crunch in another exciting, hard-fought battle.  Both teams had their chances and both goalies made game-saving stops in regulation which ended in a 1-1 tie...a little deja vous from Saturday evening!  Off to O.T. again.  Unfortunately, this time the girls didn't get past the 3on3 portion as Napanee found the back of the net near the end of the first O.T.  Not the result they had hoped for, but a great showing nonetheless.

We are very proud of the girls and have sort of nicknamed ourselves the "Bridesmaids" as they played in 3 tournies this season and came out all 3 times with a silver.  But who knows...playoffs are just around the corner and maybe another colour is on the horizon!!!

Great work by the Cambridge Tournament organizers, lots of parent support and, as always, a dedicated staff made the weekend fun and successful again!
