Novice Tryout
Dear Parents,

My name is Erik King and I will be the Novice Rep Head Coach for the upcoming season (2019-20). I am looking forward to a great season with this awesome group of talented female hockey players. Following tryout being completed, additional coaching staff members will be selected and announced.

I would like to provide you with some expectations for tryouts and some basic team information for the upcoming season. I appreciate your child attending for some additional ice time; but please let me know in advance so that I can plan accordingly. All players are guaranteed two (2) ice times. No releases will occur until after the second ice session and releases will be done in person with the player and parent present.

Tryouts are often a stressful time for players and parents. The most beneficial thing we can do for the players is to support them and have them play at a level where they have the best opportunity to develop. If you have a question for me, then please e-mail me at any point. If you have a concern, then please respect the WGHA protocol of waiting 24 hours to contact the coach. Please contact me via e-mail after this time. If I receive an email before this time, I will respond when the 24 hour wait period has expired.

Tryout schedule:
Wed. Sept 4th 4:30-5:20 @ WRC -Skating Skills Scrimmage
Fri. Sept 6th 6:00-6:20  @ WRC- Skating Skills - Scrimmage (releases made post practice)
Tues. Sept 10th 5:30-6:20 @ WRC  -Skating Skills  Scrimmage (releases made post practice)

**please check the WGHA website frequently for potential changes to this schedule.

Tryout Information:

For tryouts, all players are expected to arrive 30 minutes before each scheduled tryout ice time and 60 minutes before each exhibition game. Parents are NOT welcome into the dressing room. We will have dressing room assistance to help with equipment, to help tie their player’s skates if that is needed.

Please know during the evaluation process, players will be evaluated on the following:
Work Ethic,
Positive Attitude,
Discipline,
Coachability,
Skating,
Passing,
Puck Control,

As a coach, my commitment:

I am very passionate about the game, the process of developing player skills, bonding a strong and united team, and developing good work ethic during practices and games. It is my belief that as a coaching staff,  it is our role to ensure that all of this can be achieved while having fun along the way.

Team Commitment:

The time commitment required from all players and parents for the season will be significant. We can expect to have 2-3 sessions per week comprised of games and practices. I would also like to include additional development; off ice skill development/ conditioning, power skating, et. cetera.

I also hope we can have a few team building events throughout the season. My plan is to have the team participate in 3-4 tournaments over the course of the season. All players are expected to attend all team events, with exceptions being made for illness or personal reasons. If this requirement cannot be met, please let me know during tryouts. That being said, despite the time requirements for REP hockey, it is my belief that hockey should fall after time for family and school in terms of importance, so such conflict being few in number) will not determine a player’s ability to play/commit.

In addition to time, there will be a financial commitment each player will be required to pay, which will be used to pay for additional ice, training and development, tournament registration and general team expenses.

Note: Any costs for team clothing (track suits, pants shells and hockey socks, etc) will be over-and-above the approximate team fee shown above.

Thank you for your continuing support of Wilmot Girls Hockey. If you have any have further questions regarding the WGHA Novice Tryouts, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
