2018-19 Wolverines Bantam BB team is off and running!!
Oct 15, 2018 - The 2018-19 Wilmot Wolverines Bantam BB team season has started to take shape and the girls are playing very good hockey.  Way back in April 2018, the team started their tryouts/exhibition games with 3 exhibition games in which they won 3 and tied 1.  Things started off great and they continued.  In September, the Bantam BB’s had 3 exhibition games and ended up with a win, a loss and a tie. These games were very important for the coaches to make some fine tuning with the lines heading into the Niagara Falls Classic Tournament in late September.

During the tournament, the girls came out flying and posted 3 straight wins followed by a tie and only gave up 1 goal in those 4 games. They advanced to the semi -final in which they played Cambridge. It was a very tight game but in the end, Cambridge was victorious with a “nail biter” 2-1. It was a very good showing and for sure something to build on for the next few tournaments to come. In the 5 games in the tournament, the girls scored 7 goals and only gave up 3, recording 3 shut outs!! Balanced scoring, great goaltending and solid defensive play has been the theme thus far.

The girls have played 2 regular season games so far. In their season opener, on October 9th, they played Mount Forest at home and out worked and outscored the Rams to a 3-1 victory. Goaltender Kaitlyn Robertson played extremely well and the goal scores were Mikayla O’Connell (2) and Paige Jurica.

In their 2nd game of the regular season, the girls traveled to Fergus and played the Grand River Mustangs on Oct 14th. The Wolverines took advantage of a 5 on 3 Power Play and opened the scoring halfway through the first making it 1-0, with Jessica Dannemann getting the marker. They held the score until half way through the third until the Mustangs got a lucky bounce in front of the Wolverines net and scored to tie it. Both teams had chances to score to take the lead but to no avail and it ended in a tie. Goaltending was great yet again by Robertson and the Wolverines are still unbeaten in the regular season!

What has been observed early, is how unselfish and positive this group of girls are. Girls are looking to pass, not trying to do everything themselves and are creating offensive opportunities. Girls are working hard on their shifts and then getting off which is keeping everyone fresh and ready to go. Goaltending has been rock-solid and the defense are making smart plays in their own end reducing scoring chances for the opposition. Well done girls, keep up the great work and let’s continue the good time rolling”

Next up, Wolverines Bantam BB travel to Walkerton on Saturday Oct 20, and Mount Forest on the 21st
