The Wilmot Wolverines peewee A team didn't leave Niagara Falls with a jackpot, but they did leave with a bucket of silver.

The girls took home second place after a hard-fought final against the Whitby Wolves at the Niagara Rapids Falls Classic, which ran from Friday to Sunday.

In their first game of the tournament, the Wolverines knotted up with the Ancaster Avalanche, earning a 0-0 draw.

In Game 2, the Wolverines played the Cambridge Roadrunners and the Wolverines pulled through with a key win. Kasey Bater got the first two goals which were assisted by Kassia Deep and Megan Haid. Jade Dittmer scored the third goal by scoring on the re-bound. She also assisted the second goal.

Game 3 was against the Niagara Falls Rapids, the home team. The first goal of the game was scored by Kasey Bater and assisted by Megan Peacock and Emma Schweitzer. Bater scored the second goal, unassisted. The last goal of the game was scored by Emily West with a fantastic slap shot, assisted by Megan Peacock and Deep, capping off the 3-0 win.

Game 4 was versus the Whitby Wolves and ended up in a 1-1 tie, our only goal being scored by Dittmer.

Once again, in the fifth game of the tournament — and the championship final — the Wolverines had to face the Whitby Wolves. It was a rocky start as the Wolves scored two goals on foggy ice, caused by heat and humidity outside. Both teams then had to change ice surfaces due to the fog at the end of the first period. Despite fighting back, the Wolverines were unable to find the back of the net, as the game ended in a 2-0 loss.

Kara McPhee and Mary Lencz had an outstanding tournament as our goalies. Lencz also played forward with outstanding passing. The defencemen, Jessica Dannemann, Schweitzer, Melanie Austin and Mia Thompson had great gap control and good defenceman to defenceman passing and Maddy Henhoeffer and Grace Mohr had great back checking and put lots of pressure on the opposing teams net.
