Peewee LL Wolverines win gold at the 11th annual Kyla Kowalik memorial tournament!
The Peewee LL Wolverines participated in the 11th annual Kyla Kowalik memorial tournament in Wilmot January 12th-14th.

The Wolverines first game of the tournament would be against the London Devillettes – Vipers.  Jadyn Dolbeck would get the Wolverines on the scoreboard late in the 1st period with assist by Lauryn Porchak.  The game would remain close through the 2nd period and most of the 3rd before Jadyn D. (assist to Maddy Adam) would find the back of the net again with less than 4 minutes remaining.  Teagan Vinke would add one more goal with less than a minute left in regulation as the Wolverines skated to a 3-0 shutout victory to kick off the tournament.  Player of the game was awarded to Jadyn D.

The Wolverines would play the Mitchell Meteors in the second game of the tournament.  The Wolverines opened the scoring only 0:45 seconds into the first period with a goal by Lauryn P (assist by Teagan V.) – the first of her career!  Faith Appleton would add another (assist by Olivia Burns) midway through the second period and the Wolverines would add 2 more early in the third period with Teagan V. and Rowyn Burns trading goals and assists to give the team a 4-0 lead.  The Wolverines would end up with a 4-2 win after Mitchell made a push in the last half of the 3rd period.  This win ensured the Wolverines would finish 1st in Pool A and received a bye to the semi-finals.  Player of the game was awarded to Rowyn B.

This tournament hosts a Skills competition that is unique to most tournaments the team attends during the season.  Teagan Vinke won ‘best puck handler’ honours during the competition with a large cheering section of parents and teammates.

In the semi-final, the Wolverines would play against the Burlington Barracudas – Red.  The Wolverines would prove to be too much for their opponent getting goals from Charlee Harding (assist Faith A.), Jadyn D., and Teagan V.  The Wolverines signature strong back check, solid defence and great goaltending would shut the door on their opponent and punch their ticket to the Finals.

The Wolverines would face the South County Predators in the Finals.  South County had finished first in pool B with a similar goals for and goals against.  After almost two periods of scoreless hockey and opportunities at both ends, Teagan V. (assist by Sophia Shantz and Emily Friendorf) would solve the South County net minder to put the Wolverines up 1-0.  The teams would trade chances through the remainder of regulation; however the Wolverines defence and goaltending would shut the door and they would eventually claim the gold medal after perhaps their toughest game to-date.  Player of the game was awarded to Claire Weinacht.

New West Gypsum Recycling
Corporate Overview: In an effort to ensure that no gypsum ever makes its way to a landfill, Tony and Gwen McCamley established New West Gypsum Recycling, Ltd. (NWGR) in 1985. Over time, a highly-efficient process was developed to pulverize the gypsum core and remove the backing paper, leaving the recycled gypsum ready for use. This process – now patented – is the cornerstone of nearly 5 million tonnes of gypsum material that NWGR has recycled to wallboard manufacturers. The recycled material is a consistent, quality blend of pre- and post-consumer gypsum material that is a readily available source for use in the manufacture of new drywall products. Since 1990, NWGR has been expanding its processing capabilities. NWGR has developed methods of recycling the paper backing for re-use in many different applications. NWGR has streamlined their processes and business model and has expanded around the globe. Today, NWGR has well over 100 people employed at plants world-wide. NWGR is the most efficient gypsum recycler today – not only can we recycle dry gypsum, but we are experts at recycling wet gypsum. Our goal is that no gypsum material ever ends up in a landfill. Since there is no product degradation during the recycling process, gypsum is an infinite re-use material. NWGR works with recycling associations, green building associations and governments to educate and bring awareness to industry stakeholders so that landfill does not have to be a choice for gypsum. The paper backing material is baled and re-used or repurposed, any post-consumer materials, like nails or screws, are culled from the gypsum recycling process and moved through separate recycling streams. We ARE Gypsum Recycling.
