Wolverines AtomLL#1 Continue Push to Playoffs
Since the Wolverines gold medal in Stoney Creek and season tournament sweep they have started back into league play to close out the remainder of the regular season schedule.

The Wolverines would start back into the regular season schedule against a familiar opponent in Ayr 2 on Feb 12th.  So far this season, the two teams have split their 4 meetings and while the Wolverines hold a slight edge in ‘goals for’ over those games, the games always prove to be a thriller.  This game would open with a number of quality scoring chances for the Wolverines, but unfortunately the post, cross bar and open cage would elude the offensive efforts of the Wolverines in the 1st period.  The Rockets would push back in the 2nd and 3rd period and keep the Wolverines on their toes.  The 0-0 tie would be broken by Ayr with only 0:31 left in the 3rd period on a controversial call at the Wolverine net that would prove to cost the Wolverines a point in the match up with a 1-0 loss.

The Wolverines would then square off against the Wolverines LL2 team on Feb 22nd.  Every meeting against this team has been a close affair with no game having more than a 2-goal differential.  Our team proved they came to play from the time the puck dropped, netting the first goal of the game less than a minute into the period.  We would add another in the 2nd and the 3rd to close out the game with a 3-0 win.  Really good goaltending by the opponent’s goaltender would keep the score a lot closer than it reflected on the scoreboard in the end.

The Wolverines would play against Ayr 1 on Feb 25th at a home matinee against a potential semi-final playoff opponent.  The Rockets would get on the board midway through the first period and add another early in the third period despite a number of Wolverine opportunities during the game.  This would put the Wolverines in an unfamiliar position where they were chasing the game and trying to keep it within reach.  Olivia B would manage to find an opening and go end-to-end and then deke out the Ayr netminder to break the donut for the Wolverines midway through the 3rd period.  This would give the Wolverines a boost and they would end up adding another with only 0:48 left in the game after a mad scramble for the loose puck in front of the Ayr net and the Wolverines goaltender on the bench.  The game would end up tied 2-2.

The Wolverines have 3 more games left on the regular season schedule and want to finish strong.  They travel to Fergus and then host Cambridge next weekend and then close out the regular season with 1 more match up against the LL2 Wolverines on March 8th.
