Peewee BB Wolverines on a Roll
The Wilmot Wolverine PeeWee BB team is on a roll after a hot weekend in Orillia, securing the silver medal at the Orillia Hawks Annual Tournament. The girls had two wins and a loss in round robin play, and after a late run in the third to tie up the final game 2-2, lost a heartbreaker in a shoot out.

Never a fun way to lose a hard-fought game, the game went into overtime, and then to a shoot out. A tough loss for the girls, they gave it their all. The Wolverines held their heads high and came back home to their league play which is preparing them for play-off and play down action to come. The Wolverines will be strong contenders.

Wilmot won two big games in league action on the weekend with a win in Woodstock Friday night 3-1, and another win in Kitchener on Sunday 2-0. Woodstock opened the scoring with a second on the clock in the first. Defensive player Kayla Schenk then fired one from the point to tie the game. Then the Wolverines came alive with Paige Carter getting the second goal off a rebound from Brianna Arends’ shot. Jenna Kumpf secured the win with an empty netter late in the third. The Wolverines came out on top. Great aggressive goaltending by Emily Jantzi, jumping on the puck, and fantastic hustle from Paige Jurica, Mikayla O’Connell and Lauren Bast.

In the game against Kitchener, Carter opened the scoring with an assist from Lindsay Slessor. Olivia Lichti, Mouse O’Connell and Jurica forechecked hard. The hard-working defensive action of Carson Weiler and Bella Davidson was noted. Sydney Knorr fired a bullet at the net in the second which was somehow reflected, and the girls kept at their game plan. Lauren Watters stood tall in the net for the Wolverines and made some outstanding glove saves. A very aggressive game with a few minor injuries, finally a second goal to Carter gave the girls the lead, and the win.

The most difficult feat of all was a late game Sunday night where the Wolverine parents took on the players. The girls tried their best, but came up short 23-2 against their elders. Good effort girls, and better luck next time.

Special thanks to team jersey sponsor Stitch Graphix in New Hamburg for their continued support of Wilmot Girls Hockey Association. The team takes on Waterloo Tuesday night, and has their season ender in Woodstock next week.
