Peewee C Wolverines Capture Gold in Orangeville Sweetheart Tournament
The Wilmot Wolverines Peewee C team participated in the Orangeville Girls Sweetheart Tournament this past weekend.  After going undefeated in 3 games and finishing first place in the tournament standings, the Wolverines went on to win the Championship game in a shoot-out.

The Wolverines faced the BCH Ice Stars in their first game.  It was a tight game, with no score at the end of two periods.  However, late in the third period, a BCH penalty gave the Wolverines the chance they needed. With under two minutes left in the game, Wolverines’ Sarah Schnarr scored, unassisted, to lead the Wolverines to their first victory. Wolverines players of the game were Sarah Schnarr and Tori Herteis.  Goaltender Tori Herteis earned the shut out.

Next, the Wolverines were up against the Ennismore Eagles in Game 2. It was another close game, with multiple penalties being given to both teams. After a scoreless first period, the Eagles got on the board first, with a goal early in the second frame. However, the Wolverines answered back quickly, with a goal by Paulie Warkentin, assisted by Grace Bender and Kylie Tremblay-Schultz.  Early in the third period, the Wolverines took the lead, with Warkentins’ second of the game, assisted by Paige Mosburger and Hailey Norman.  The Wolverines team shut down the Eagles to hold onto the 2-1 win.  Players of the game were awarded to Paulie Warkentin and Leah Yantzi.

Game 3 saw the Wolverines match up against the Cold Creek Comets.  In this game, the Wolverines took an early lead with Sarah Schnarr firing one past the Comets goaltender, assisted by Grace Bender. Although both teams were handed multiple penalties throughout the game, neither team could capitalize and the one-goal lead would hold through most of the game.  However, with just under four minutes remaining, the Wolverines added to their lead with Paulie Warkentin scoring from Bender and that is how the score remained. Players of the game were Grace Bender and Paige Mosburger. Earning her second shut-out of the tournament was Tori Herteis.

After 3 games, the Wolverines found themselves in first place in the tournament standings, allowing them the opportunity to face Lambeth in the Championship game. Wolverines’ goaltenders Tori Herteis. and Dana Jantzi both played amazing throughout the tournament, allowing a total of just 3 goals combined.

In the Championship game, the Wolverines found themselves down 2-0 after two periods of play. However, with just under seven minutes remaining in the third period, the Wolverines Sydney Petzky fired one in, assisted by Leah Yantzi and Kayla Dickie, to give the Wolverines new life. Then, with a little over four minutes left, Paige Mosburger scored on a great end to end rush, to tie the game and send it to overtime.  After an intense 3 minute 4 on 4 OT, followed by another 3 minute 3 on 3 OT, the game was still tied, sending it to a shoot-out.

In the shoot-out, with both teams shooting at once, Wolverines’ goaltender Tori Herteis made a great save on the first shooter.  However, Wolverines Leah Yantzi was also stopped at the other end.  Wolverines’ second shooter Sarah Schnarr scored, with the Lambeth shooter again being shut down.  In the final shots of the game, Wolverines Sydney Petzky also scored, while the Lambeth shooter did not, and the Wolverines claimed the exciting Gold Medal game victory. Players of the Championship game were  Kayla Dickie and Syd Petzky.
