Atom B Wolverines Clinch Berth in Provincial Championships!
WOW, the past 5 weeks have been an incredible time for these girls!  It has seen the Atom B Wolverines complete 2 rounds of LLFHL Playoffs, play an eight game round robin series for the Provincial Playdowns (wrapping up this Sunday vs. Woolwich) as well as squeezing in a gold medal at the Walter Gretzky Tournament in Brantford.  Unfortunately, we were not able to get past a very stingy Stratford team in the LLFHL semi-finals but the girls were successful in their Playdowns and have advanced to the Provincial Championship Tournament in Ottawa, April 4-7!

The Wolverines have been playing a very aggressive style of hockey and thrive on putting pressure on the opposition and making them uncomfortable. Tight team defense and a balanced scoring attack are a couple of the reasons the girls have a 12-4-2 record since (Feb 1) while scoring 36 goals and allowing 11 against.

In LLHFL playoffs the girls made quick work of Belmont beating them 2 straight beating them 1-0 and 5-1. The following series against Stratford proved much more difficult and the team had difficulty scoring against Stratford’s stingy defence. The girls lost game one 2-0, tied game two 1-1 and lost game three 1-0.

Matched up against Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge and Woolwich for the Provincial Playdowns Round Robin, the Wolverines came out strong winning the first four games of the eight game round robin. After suffering their first playdown loss against the Woolwich Wildcats 1-0 the girls bounced back beating the Cambridge Road Runners 2-0. With back to back games coming up against Waterloo and 1 more game against Woolwich the girls needed a single win to advance to the Ottawa in April. In the 1 st game against Waterloo the girls looked a bit cautious and ended up losing 2-1. Keeping true to the work ethic the girls have shown all year they fought back with a 2-1 win over Waterloo to advance to the Provincial Finals Tournament in Ottawa.  Facing Woolwich in their final playdown matchup, the Wolverines demonstrated that they will not back down when faced with a challenge.  While Woolwich came out strong and scored early in the game, the Wolverines took back control of the game and scored in the second period, and would leave the game as a 1-1 tie.

Great job so far Wolverines!!! Keep playing hard!!!
