Net minder, Abbey Luckhardt came up with a big game as the Wilmot Peewee HL Wolverines dominated over the Woolwich Wild in action with a 3-0 game.
'Rocket' Jaye Foster led the attack early in the game
with an unassisted breakaway shot just 45 seconds into the game (and yes, some
fans hadn't even taken their seats yet). With the lead in hand the Wolverines
dominated the game with strong defensive play from Hannah Litwiller, Anna
Wagler, and Josie Fronchak.
The second frame saw many chances with strong attacks
from forwards Meghan Dale and Emylea Wiens who chalked up multiple shots on a
shell-shocked Woolwich net. The pack's second goal came near the end of the
second period, with a set-up from Leeta Currah to Briana Strudwick, as
Hailey "The Beast" Brunk snipered a goal to launch the Wolverines to
a 2-0 lead.
Digger Cassie Zehr sealed the Wild's fate by pocketing a
third goal midway through the third period, with a pass from Madison Ryckman
and Jamie Roth. Additional third period action was highlighted by solid
efforts from Lily Chodos, Brooke Dubeau, Caley Klaassen and the returning
Brittany Carey.
An elated Coach Jason Zehr was seen jumping for joy as
the Wolverines secured their first multi goal win of the season. "The
girls are working very hard and it appears our 50-Shots-A-Day strategy is
really paying off!
If this is any indication, it looks like we're all in for
an exciting second half of this season - Go Wolverines!"
