Saturday October 22nd proved to be an exciting day for the girls of Wilmot #1. They had a visit from two current Kitchener Rangers defencemen Julian Melchiori (#7) and Jonathan Jaspers (#77).
The meeting was arranged through the 'Blue C.R.E.W' program which is a partnership started in 2009 between the Waterloo Regional Police Services and the Kitchener Rangers. The goal of the Blue C.R.E.W. is to help educate our community, particularly elementary school children, on such topics as leadership, respect, pride and teamwork. Every player on the Rangers roster has been matched up with a member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Teams will work collectively as youth educators and role models, guiding one another through the rewards and challenges of community stewardship, with the hope of building a long lasting camaraderie.
Both Julian and Jonathan came into the dressing room before the game, gave the girls a pep talk and then signed autographs for the girls. They posed for a photo with our team before heading upstairs to watch the action. The game proved to be a very exciting one with Shelby Page standing on her head in goal. Our Ranger guests came down to visit the girls again, then allowed for pictures to be taken in the front lobby of the WRC after the game. Our girls were very excited and extremely polite and thankful for the visit. I was very proud of how they carried themselves in front of the future NHLers. Thanks go out to Chris Mace in organizing the special day for the girls, and also to Julian Melchiori and Jonathan Jaspers for taking time out of their day to spend time with the girls. Special thanks to the WRPS and the Kitchener Rangers that continue to show that they are both top ranked organizations with their continued involvement in the community.
Parents, please forward pictures to me so we can post.
Coach RK
