Qualification Requirements

Rep Head Coach Qualifications:

  1. Online staff application completed
  2. Coaching qualifications as per OWHA Certification Requirements for team level and age group.
  3. Valid Police Check
  4. Speak Out!/Respect in Sport Certificate (coaches/Hockey Canada activity leaders version)
  5. Two years’ experience as a member of a hockey coaching staff (in a coaching capacity i.e. head coach or asst. coach)

Local League Head Coach Qualifications:

  1. Online staff application completed
  2. Coaching qualifications as per OWHA Certification Requirements for team level and age group. 
  3. Valid Police Check
  4. Speak Out!/Respect in Sport Certificate (coaches/Hockey Canada activity leaders version)

Asst Coach Qualifications:

  1. Online staff application completed
  2. Coaching qualifications as per OWHA Certification Requirements for team level and age group.
  3. Valid Police Check
  4. Speak Out!/Respect in Sport Certificate(coaches/Hockey Canada activity leaders version)

Trainers Qualifications:

  1. Online staff application completed
  2. Hockey Trainers Certificate Program ‐ Level 1 or higher
  3. Valid Police Check
  4. Speak Out!/Respect in Sport Certificate (coaches/Hockey Canada activity leaders version)
  5. Head Trainer Must be Female

Manager Qualifications:

  1. Online staff application completed
  2. Valid Police Check
  3. Speak Out!/Respect in Sport Certificate(coaches/Hockey Canada activity leaders version)

On-Ice Helper Qualifications:

  1. Online staff application completed
  2.  Must be 14yrs and older:
  3. Valid Police Check (for helpers 18yrs and older)
  4.  Speak Out!/Respect in Sport Certificate
  5. WGHA guideline that there be a minimum 2 year age gap between the "On-Ice Helper" and the oldest player on the team
  6. Under 14 years - please contact WGHA Director Staff Development
   

 

* Valid Police Checks are required every three years.  See below for more information regarding Police Checks.
** Police checks for non-Waterloo Region Residents - Waterloo police will only perform a police check for residents within Waterloo Region. Non-Waterloo residents must go to the website of their township/municipal office for information on how to get a police check done.

Everyone on a team's staff must complete an online application.  The Coach and Staff Application is used for all bench staff positions, except for Wilmot Wolverines players who are acting as on-ice helpers (they get their own online application form).  The form can be found under the Coaches and Staff tab of the website.
